WELCOME!  The Tax Collector’s office is committed to providing the public with prompt, courteous and professional service as we strive to maintain a high collection rate, which is key to fiscal stability for the City and is the number one priority of the Tax office.  The City of Shelton adheres to CT State Statutes and the City ordinances and personnel cannot make any decisions contrary to these laws. SHELTON TAX NOTICE      2024/2025 MILL RATE  19.18

Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the City of Shelton that the taxes on the October 1, 2023 Grand list for fiscal year July 2024/January 2025 are now due and payable as follows:
*Real Estate and Business Personal Property 1st installment tax bill mailed the last week of June. The bill is due July 1, 2024, pay on or before August 1, 2024 to avoid interest. Use “Part A” of your bill for this installment.
*Real Estate and Business Personal Property 2nd installment tax bill mailed in June. The bill is due on January 1, 2025, pay on or before February 3, 2025 to avoid interest. Use “Part B” of the bill you were mailed in June for this installment. A new bill will not be sent.
*Motor Vehicle tax bill mailed the last week of June for vehicles registered on October 1, 2023. This bill is due July 1, 2024 in one installment, pay on or before August 1, 2024 to avoid interest.
*Sewer Use fee bill mailed the last week of June. This bill is due July 1, 2024 in one installment, pay on or before August 1, 2024 to avoid interest.
*Motor Vehicle Supplemental bill mailed in December for vehicles registered between October 2, 2023-August 31, 2024. This bill is due January 1, 2025, pay on of before February 3, 2025 to avoid interest.  Interest is charged at the rate of 1.5% per month from the original due date. Minimum interest is $2.00.

PAYMENT OPTIONS:

           *ONLINE PAYMENTS: Available 24/7 by clicking the link below you can pay taxes online using an E-check, Visa debit card or Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express credit card. Point and Pay, the service provider, charges a convenience fee and 100% of these fees goes directly to them.  Each fee is as follows: E-check .99 cent fee; Visa debit $3.95 fee and all credit cards have a 2.5% fee, or $2.00 minimum.  Your fee will be disclosed to you during checkout so you will have a chance to accept or cancel before you submit your payment. Delinquent car taxes paid online with an E-check have a 10 business day waiting period before the DMV is cleared for you to renew or register a vehicle. Make sure to pay by debit/credit card to avoid DMV clearance delays.

           *PAY-BY-PHONE: >Please call the processing company at 1-877-495-2729. There is a $5.00 fixed fee for this service in addition to the convenience fee.


           *PAY-IN-PERSON: Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00-5:30Please bring your entire bill so we can receipt your copy, otherwise your check is your receipt. We accept checks or cash in the office, we DO NOT accept credit cards, but we do have a self-service public computer in our lobby for your use.  Delinquent motor vehicles must be paid by cash or money order in the office for an immediate DMV clearance, there is a 10 business day waiting period if you pay with a check. 

           *PAY-BY-MAIL: Mail payments to Shelton Tax Collector, PO BOX 273, Shelton, CT 06484. If you want a receipt, please send your entire bill and a self addressed stamped envelope, otherwise your check is your receipt.  When you mail your payment it is posted “on time” as long as it has a USPS postmark within the due dates of the bill.  WARNING: If you are using an electronic bill pay system through your bank and they mail the City a check, these envelopes do not have postmarks and you may be subject to interest if your payment is not received in our office within the due dates of the bill.

*PAY-AT-BANKS: Webster Bank and Newtown Savings Bank in Shelton and M&T Bank in CT accept tax payments during the months of July and January ONLY. You must have your original bill and not owe any delinquent taxes to pay at the bank. You do not have to be a customer/member of the bank to make payment.

State Aid Sec 12-130

Per Ct State Statutes Sec 12-130 the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget for the City of Shelton estimates that $9,117,159.00 will be received from the State of CT for various state financed programs. Without this assistance, the mill rate for the fiscal year 2024-2025 would be 20.70 mills.  The state will reduce grants to Shelton if local spending increases by more than 2.5% from the previous fiscal year.  The Board of Aldermen met on May 31, 2024 and set the mill rate for the 2024-2025 fiscal year at 19.18 mills. This mill rate will be in effect through June 30, 2025.
