8/8/020 - Since Tropical Storm Isaias hit on Tuesday, United Illuminating and City personnel have been working on de-energizing and clearing roads. Due to the extensive damage caused by the storm, the level of repairs are significant. As of 8/6/20, repairs and restoration started in the City. U.I. has informed us that the majority of residents will be restored by Saturday night. At the height of the event, approx. 12,000 city businesses and residents were without power. As of 9 AM today, the number restored is approx. 9,200. Please go to www.uinet.com and click Outages to look at the changes of outage numbers for Shelton and the region. As a reminder, cable and phone lines are separate from U.I. and should be contacted by the resident. For updates, please check back on our website.

Automated Collection of Trash & Single Stream Recycling

The City of Shelton has made tremendous gains in eliminating unsightly trash from our streets, increased efficiency and reduced waste disposal costs by implementing Automated Collection and Single Stream Recycling in the most environmentally sound method.

Residents are provided wheeled Carts (with hinged covers to prevent spillage or attract animals) which are collected by trucks equipped with mechanical arms for automated collection.

Brown Carts are for Trash, collected weekly and Blue Carts are for Recycling, which are collected bi-weekly.

Single-stream makes recycling easier than ever. You can put all of your recycling in one large CART.
